My cruise was awesome! Catalina is the coolest place on earth, most everyone that lives there drives golfcarts because they are only allowed so many full sized cars at once and the waiting period in roughly 16 years! It was so beautiful!!!!!! Enseanda Mexico was fine for me and Aaron- we got whisked out of town to the countryside and went on a really nice wine tour of two really greay winerys. We lucked out, because everyone that went to downtown Ensenada were miserable because they have lots of children begging on the streets, or trying to sell pieces of gum for a dollar. It's a very poor area and the only way the twon thrives is through tourism. I'm really glad that we got to see the pretty sides of Mexico, the countryside was full of cool mountains and weird shaped boulders. We plan on taking another one within the next year or so.

And polly, I gave less info on the book than the inside flap, so trust me, it's not ruined! XD

I am soooooo glad the book was good, I was so worried I wouldn't like it, but she really surprised me.

Have you all heard of that Cyclone thats killed thousands of people? It was last week but Ive only just heard about it as I havent watched much news recently and got really shocked as I just saw the news and they were showing the dead floating in water and lined up on backs - adults and children - I cried so hard (more emotional since having Aimeé) I dont think they should show that on tv but it does bring it to home how bad this was

Yes i heard not so long ago, these things don' really mean that much to me until you actually see the aftermath. I remember the london undeground bombings and the newsflash comming acroos the bottom of the screen, when i saw the news flas i turned the channel over because the bar was annoying me, now when i look back i feel bad for not caring more. sometimes it takes the aftermath for people to wake up and smell the fairtrade coffee.

I havent heard about that....thats sad.. I feel bad for all those people and those poor kids....It makes me wanna cry...but for some reason....I cant. I would hate for that to happen again.

Yeah, heard about it. Apparently, the government of Burma - aka the country affected by it - is reluctant to receive humanitarian aid from the outside .. or at least, to people coming there from the outside to help disrtibute the packages of food etc to the people... well, that's at least what I think I remember from the news this morning. :/

And news are there to keep one informed and what kind of information would that be if we only put in pink fluff and nice stuff and left out all the serious matters out? Or else, we should put *everything* in there, it's just that we'd probably get newscasts that last for days.

And about the question whether they should show the most dramatic or brutal bits - of course they should, it's the only way to mobilize people from the outside to help, otherwise one just tends to say, "So what? - at least *I* have my comfortable home and good steak.". Mind you, the way I see it, this often happens anyhow, no matter how drastic the pictures are, because we don't feel any danger for ourselves and those people suffering are far away. Or maybe it does make us sad for the moment but then the newscast ends and our favourite movie comes on or maybe we go out shopping and, guess what, the feeling of wanting to help is forgotten in the blink of an eye.

Oh, and this somewhat bitter reflection does by no means exclude myself, quite the opposite.

But then again, maybe it's just the general impression I personally have on society. I'm happy there are still people like you, Elfie, or others here and in the world at large, who haven't lost their humanity and compassion.

I'm always so hurt and sad when 99% of Americans don't watch the World Cup xD

..and I hate to admit that they're actually pretty good this year - way better than in the Winter Olympics :D

My dad and brother are HUGE hockey fans. They lurrrveee the NJ Devils of coarse. My brother plays hockey - both roller and ice so yeah. XD. I've been to a bunch of games but I don't like it much..

I didn't even know there was a World Cup in hockey. XD
