Part One

The famous astronomer Richard Proctor was born on March 23rd, 1837 in Chelsea, London. A crater on Mars was named after Proctor for his studies and the earliest maps ever drawn of the planet in 1867. Using his first drawing he estimated the sidereal day on Mars. His last estimates dated at 24 hours 37minutes and 22.713 seconds exact, extremely close to the modern count of 24 hours 37minutes and 22.663 seconds.

Richard's father died in 1850, His mother then attended herself to his education. He was sent to Kings Collage, London where he later earned himself a scholarship to St. Johns Collage. Wanting more he raised the bar, turning to the study of Astronomy and Authorship. He wrote many articles and novels explaining his discoveries and inferences. When a failure of a New Zealand bank effected Richards’s life, he depended completely on his writings to support his family.

Proctor cultivated a new form of writing to attract customers to his work. He wrote a number of periodicals; and although he had staited that he would at this time, turned to stone breaking on the roads, or another form unscientific labor, If a modest competence had been offered him in any such direction, he attained a high degree of popularity. His numerous works had a wide influence in familiarizing the public with the main facts of astronomy.

His largest and most ambitious work, Old and New Astronomy, unfortunately left unfinished at his death, was completed by A. Cowper Ranyard and published in 1892. A monument was later erected in his memory and Mary Proctor, his daughter, became an astronomer and a successful lecturer and writer.

My appologies, I will edit right away! I didn't realize until now that I let this go unanswered.
