| thurisaz i picked this rune because it is a thorne i think it is important to remember that even the sweetest of roses has thornes and that the reason the vikings picked this to be one of there signs is like me they were aware bad always comes with the good just as fall allways follows summer 2) isa i picked isa because it repracents ice and that is what men call me the ice maiden it is a strait line like me unbending unchanging i think that is a quaulity that should be praised when something is forever you know were you are with it and in this ever changing world surely that is good 3) perdhro i picked this one as i liked the shape it is the rune for birth and riches 2 of the things that a good slytherin is always pleased about money because you can get nowhere without it and birth because so many of us only have one child (not including me i have 5) this rune looks a bit like a bridge on its side it also looks like a flask for potions it is also the rune for wisdom ,good thing to have always 4)othala this is a squared circle with 2 legs to look at it makes me think of a human and reminds me that although i'm a witch i am still only human and to treat muggles well because they are human to even if they are a bit odd and look strainge and are unable to do even the basic magic oh sorry got carried away again 5) mannaz as a slytherin it has to be this rune that comes last ,last but most important the rune of ancestores we set great store on who they were and what blood status they had my family the prince family have this name because we are the nearest you can get to wizarding royalty no ones line goes back further without any mudblood oh sorry did i saythat . for the seventh rune i would use the sign of the peverell brothers to remind everyone no matter how good you are at magic or how pure your blood you cannot cheat death even if you do have 3 ex headmasters in your extended family. so the rune would be a diamond shape that reprosents the cloak of invisibility owned first by ignotus peverell and latter by harry potter the second mark a line that is the wand also known as the elder wand or the death stick was owned by the eldest brother thought to be called antioch the brother my family is said to come from it did not bring him anthing but a swift deaththe 3rd a circle is the resurection stone was owned by cadmus the line the dark lord came from and although it can bring the ghost of a person and not the person themself and as cadmus found out the ghost is as bad as nothing he killed himself the first in a long line of mentally sick people going right down to tom riddle ( the dark lord) himself , hestole the ring and turned it into a horcrux which was suposed to give him imortality and is the reason i think this should be the seventh rune so we never forget we are only here on borrowed time and not forever no matter how hard we try |

| [b]Part 1- (1) Unicorn - A unicorn symbolises purity. A person who is of good heart and did not do any single sins is pure. Just like the unicorn, an innocent living beast which did not do any harm, is of dispicable purity and i would like to be one too. Someone with a pure heart. It has a unicorn's head and has one horn which represents 1. (2) Fwooper-A Fwooper has different varieties of colours on its body. It also seems like the Fwooper is really something flamboyant. I am a flamboyant person and also cheerful. But there is a disadvantage for the Fwooper. Its song will drive the listener insane. So, when it is sold, a silencing charm will be casted on it. (3) Graphorn- A Graphorn is a large purple and grayish monster. It has two extremely sharp horns. They are very dangerous monsters. When I am angry i can be like that. Its just like piercing your horns on someone. It has an advantage - It can be used in potions. Well what part of it? It is the horn of a Graphorn that can be used in potions. (4) Griffin- A Griffin has the front body of an eagle and hindquarters of the lion. It is used to guard treasures. It is like a saying to me that although gryffins don't like people and don't tend to help them, even if i like something I can't be doing the same thing has i have a life of my own, I still have to live the way I think it is right. (5) Runespoor- A Runespoor is a three headed snake which is lividly orange and has black bandings. It wierdly produces its eggs through its mouth. It teaches me that even if you don't like to work with someone, atleast you have to get the job done. Well in this case, atleast live together and die because none of you will be alive. Eventually you all will die. What's the point of killing each other??? |

| Analyzing Ancient Runes
Part One:
Go to this website: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/sources/jkr.com/jkr-com-trans-runes.html
This website has a list of the Ancient Runes and for the first part of the assignment I want you to pick five of them and in no less than 50 words I want you to say which one you picked, what it looks like and give a brief explaination as to why you think that why you think the symbol of the Rune is it’s symbol.
Demiguise: The Demiguise symbolizing the number “0” fits perfectly because, as anybody who’s read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them knows, Demiguises, which look like large, silvery haired gorillas, have the unique ability to turn themselves invisible. Therefore, when you look to see where the Demiguise is, and it has turned invisible, you see “nothing”, or zero things.
Unicorn: Like the Demiguise, the unicorn also has a very distinct characteristic, which can be gathered simply from it’s name. The name “unicorn” means “one-horn”, which is what the unicorn has. And it is because of this one horn that the horse-like unicorn possesses that it is used to symbolize none other than the rune for “one”.
Graphorn: The graphorn, like the unicorn, symbolizes what it does due to the number of distinctive horns upon its head. Possessing one more horn than the unicorn, the graphorn has two horns that curve outwards with which it fights against its opponents, making it very dangerous. It is because of these two lethal weapons that the graphorn symbolizes, obviously, “two”.
Runespoor: The unique trait that of the Runespoor, a magical snake, is that it has not one extra head, but two. Each head has a specific “job”: the right is the planner, the center is the dreamer, and the left is the critic. The left head’s criticisms are so nasty that sometimes the other two heads band together to bite it off. Regardless of how many heads the Runespoor may end up with, the fact that it is born with three makes it the representation of “three” in the rune world.
Fwooper: The Fwooper is an exotic bird whose song is said to drive the listener insane But, it is not it’s song that makes the Fwooper the candidate for signifying the number “four”; rather, it is its plumage. This African bird is covered with beautiful feathers, in around four distinguishable colors.
Possible points 50 (10 for each rune)
Part Two:
The seventh rune’s symbol should be that of one of the magical world’s most mysterious creatures-in my opinion, anyways. The seventh rune should bear the likeness of a boggart. I know, I know: no one knows what a boggart looks like when it’s not assuming the worst fear of the person it’s trying to frighten half to death. But, studies obviously could be done to figure out what this form could be. Mad-Eye Moody possessed an eye that could see through anything; he spotted a boggart in a corner desk at Grimmauld place by looking through the desk from the floor beneath where it was located. There must be spells that can be done to find out the Boggart’s natural form. And, even if there’s not a way to discover what a Boggart really looks like, the rune could simply be a blurry, foggy cloud with red menacing eyes. The unknown nature of the Boggart’s true form, along with the fact that you never really know what it’s going to turn into next to frighten someone, make it the perfect fit for the rune “seven”, whose own meaning is unknown. It may be a stretch…but as the meaning and the boggart show: who really knows?
Possible points 30
Bonus:

Gotta love paint.
Possible points: 20 points

| Part One: (0) Demiguise- This rune stone symbolizes the number zero. It takes its appearance as the top half of a Demiguise’s face. A Demiguise is an ape-like creature that has the ability to become transparent. I think that it suits the rune perfectly, because of its power to make itself invisible and appear as though there is nothing around. (2) Graphorn- This rune looks somewhat like a Viking helmet; however it is the two horns of a Graphorn. This makes it appropriate for it to stand for the number 2. A Graphorn is a mountain dwelling animal with two horns that have the power to repel most spells and potions. The animal is naturally aggressive, so it is usually quite difficult to obtain the horns. (4) Fwooper- The rune that symbolizes the number 4 takes the image of a silhouetted Fwooper. A Fwooper is an exotic African bird that has a distinctive song that eventually causes the listener to go insane. It also has feathers of four different colors: green, orange, pink, and yellow. This makes the Fwooper a perfect candidate to represent the number four rune. (6) Salamander- This rune takes the shape of a Salamander. A Salamander is a magical creature that is born out of a fire. At first, it is white-hot, but as it ventures away from its original fire, the color varies from blue or crimson depending on the temperature of its birth flame. These creatures can live for up to six hours outside a fire, with being regularly fed peppers. So, it is fit that this rune is used to symbolize the number six. (8)-Acromantula- The rune that is used to symbolize the number eight takes the image of an Acromantula, which is a wizard bred species of a gigantic spider. These creatures are incredibly intelligent as well as extremely dangerous. Their venom is exceptionally valuable (100 galleons / pint) but impossible to extract from a living Acromantula. Not only do these spiders have eight legs, but also eight eyes. Part Two: The meaning of the seventh rune has been unknown for generations; however the number seven occurs throughout the history of magic. Whether it is the number of players on a quidditch team, the number of years it takes for a unicorn to be fully grown, or the seven challenges used to guard the sorcerers stone, the number seven is regarded as the most magical number of all. The ruin itself looks like a face surrounded by a guard. Many believe that the seventh ruin influenced Voldemorts decision on how many horcruxes, but in all honesty he only truly made six, with an additional part of his soul residing in himself. So, that rules that possibility out for me. Clause Seven of the Decree says that magic is allowed to be used in the presence of muggles in exceptional circumstances. In my opinion, the seventh ruin could simbolize the relationship between magical beings and muggles throughout time. The “face” previously stated, could be protecting itself from non magic folk, or it could go into deeper meaning by trying to protect muggles from wizards and witches involved in the dark arts. Which would show a whole new relationship between the two people in even acient times. |
